Nature and Greenery in Bulgaria

Bulgaria is a relatively small country, at only 111,000 sq. km, but the natural landscape is lush and diverse.
There are long-stretching coastlines in Bulgaria with thriving sea-nature, and 16 different mountains with their own natural characteristics.
Bulgaria is also home to lovely valleys and plateaus, 550 healing mineral springs, and a plethora of unique natural phenomena, including Bulgarian caves and countless flora and fauna.
Rila National Park is the youngest of Bulgaria’s nature reserves. It covers half of the Rila mountain range and is located in the Southwest of Bulgaria. The seven Rila lakes are a marvel of nature, and some of Bulgaria’s best. You can hear the rushing waters of Bulgaria flowing over the natural rocks and eddies.
Pirin National Park of Bulgaria is located on the highest point of Pirin mountain and the rich Mediterranean climate makes it a natural kaleidoscope of beautiful vegetation and fauna.
There are a number of zones to visit within this park, including the Bulgarian pine forest where the Baikusheva pine has stood for centuries.
The pristine limestone is home to extinct Bulgarian edelweiss and the famous Pirin poppy.
The Pirin lakes are gorgeous and surrounded by Macedonian pine, as well as Silver fir and spruce trees.
The wildlife is thriving all around, including eagles and falcons.
